- eFuse pauses Creator League operations due to blockchain application issues.
- eFuse used Near blockchain for data validation and recording information.
- Gaming community expresses concerns over potential exploitation through blockchain technology.
The digital gaming technology company eFuse has momentarily paused operations of its recently initiated Creator League due to contentious issues related to its application of blockchain technology. A leading cryptocurrency expert, Coin Bureau, voiced his disappointment, stating, “It’s disheartening to discover that the term ‘blockchain’ has garnered a negative connotation within the gaming community.”
On September 6, a statement was issued through the official Twitter account of Creator League, in which Shawn Pavel, the Vice President of Engineering at eFuse, expressed his apologies for the unintentional non-disclosure of the restricted usage of the blockchain. eFuse clarified that it was utilizing the Near blockchain for data validation and recording information about the “Community Passes” being sold to enthusiasts at $20 each.
Per the official announcement, all passes were acquired with USD and were not classified as NFTs (non-fungible tokens) or associated with a token launch due to their absence of transferability. Pavel underscored, “The Creator League is not engaged in NFT initiatives, and we have never conducted a token sale.”
Despite eFuse’s insistence that the Community Passes did not constitute NFTs and lacked any cryptocurrency components, several league-affiliated influencers voiced apprehensions regarding the involvement of blockchain technology. Detractors contended that these passes bore a striking resemblance to NFTs despite their non-exchangeable nature.
The creators of Fabled, a complimentary action role-playing game, proposed that the gaming community harbors a negative sentiment towards Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) within their gaming experience. This is primarily due to the apprehension that it could pave the way for corporations to devise innovative strategies to monetize from them.
In the meantime, another prominent figure in the cryptocurrency space, who goes by the alias Lady of Crypto, shared her viewpoint. She stated, “I wouldn’t necessarily categorize gamers as against blockchain technology. Rather, they are extremely vigilant about the potential exploitative strategies that large corporations might employ to exploit them.”
The Crypto Enthusiast highlighted the persistent exploitation of gamers by leading game developers over the past ten years. She referenced instances such as those involving Ubisoft and EA, continually implementing progressively exploitative microtransactions while simultaneously providing inferior quality products.
