On September 9, Dmitry Buterin, the father of Vitalik Buterin, announced that his son’s X account had been compromised. The post he referred to has since been deleted. In the post, Buterin allegedly expressed excitement about “Proto-Danksharding coming to Ethereum.” Despite reports of the hacked Twitter account, account control was swiftly regained.
Prominent Security Violations
Reports indicate that cybercriminals employed a phishing link in a tweet that falsely stated that Consensys was offering a unique NFT to celebrate the introduction of “Proto-Danksharding” on Ethereum. The X account of Ethereum’s co-founder was breached due to this. PeckShieldAlert has issued a warning about a phishing URL associated with this incident.
Buterin’s account hack is the most recent in a series of notable security breaches within the cryptocurrency sector. Earlier this year, in July, Hayden Adams, the founder of Uniswap, also had his Twitter account compromised. Recent posts from Buterin indicate that he collaborated with Ameen Soleimani on a research paper on blockchain privacy, among other topics.
