Ordinals Protocol Bug Found, can be fixed with Upgrade

A bug in the Bitcoin Ordinals program was recently brought to light by a user. It has been reported that inscription No. 3492721 can be programmed despite having zero input and output. The founder of Ordinals, Casey Rodarmor, has suggested an upgrade. However, it is important to note that implementing this upgrade will impact all programs beyond 3492721. As a professional, it is crucial to address such bugs and take necessary measures to ensure the smooth functioning of the program.

Someone found a bug in the Ordinals program. The inscription No. 3492721 has 0 input and 0 output, but it can be programmed into the number. The founder of Ordinals said that it can be solved by upgrading, but it will affect all programs after 3492721. @super_testnet has also…

Super Testnet, a skilled freelance software developer focusing on Bitcoin, has recently unveiled a powerful tool to address a critical network issue. The solution, meticulously outlined on GitHub, has been shared with Super Testnet’s Twitter followers, requesting users to follow the installation and usage instructions and provide feedback on their results. While the developer has informed users that a non-retrievable 10k Sats fee will be involved in the process, even if the upgrade doesn’t work, Super Testnet remains committed to ensuring the network’s stability and security. As a professional in the field, Super Testnet’s dedication to excellence is evident in every aspect of this innovative solution.

Super Testnet’s solution comprises ten steps that users can effortlessly execute independently. Additionally, the solution provides users with codes that can be conveniently copied and deployed to initiate the upgrade process. As part of the upgrade, users must transfer 10k Sats to a wallet address displayed in one of the steps. It is important to note that this transfer is irreversible, and users must also persuade miners to prioritize their transactions before finalizing the upgrade.

In the previous month, an unfortunate bug in the Bitcoin Ordinals protocol led to excluding around 1,200 legitimate entries from the Bitcoin network. Upon investigation, the community found that the exclusion resulted from an indexing error that caused the protocol only to recognize entries in the initial transaction input. Consequently, the bug orphaned the affected entries and disconnected from the Bitcoin network.

The Ordinal protocol, a feature of the Bitcoin network, empowers users to trigger smart contract codes during transactions, facilitating embedding of a distinctive inscription on every Satoshi. These inscriptions can function as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), each with a unique identity. The beauty of Ordinals lies in their cost-effectiveness, as they do not necessitate the complex storage systems found on Ethereum and other NFT-centric networks. This innovation has opened up new avenues for creating exclusive NFTs on the Bitcoin network.
