Lufthansa Group, a leading international airline corporation, has unveiled its Non-Fungible Token (NFT) integrated loyalty program on the Polygon blockchain. This innovative platform is designed to incentivize passengers by tokenizing their travel experiences. According to the official statement, travelers can convert their experiences into unique digital assets, accumulate collectible trading cards, and access exclusive platform benefits.
Uptrip, a platform powered by Web3 technology, has entered into strategic partnerships with Lufthansa Innovation Hub, the digital innovation division of Lufthansa, and Miles and More, the airline’s loyalty program. Uptrip offers its users an enhanced flight experience with distinctive rewards and benefits. These include access to business lounges, complimentary air miles, and exclusive privilege unlocks.
Significantly, the firm announced that users can digitize their boarding passes and convert them into tradable tokens on the platform. Similarly, the platform boasts an array of experiential collections that users can access to earn additional rewards.
As per the recent disclosure, users must integrate their digital asset wallets, like Metamask, with the platform. This facilitates the minting and transferring of their Uptrip NFTs. Furthermore, it enables them to trade and swap these NFTs with fellow platform users.
Lufthansa announced its intentions to venture into the Web3 landscape earlier this year. In line with the surge of other corporations, the airline expressed interest in exploring the potential integration of Web3 technologies into its operations. The recent launch of their loyalty platform represents one of the company’s initial forays into the Web3 domain.
Additionally, the loyalty program is accessible across all airlines within the group, encompassing Lufthansa, Swiss International Airlines, and Austrian Airlines. Passengers traveling on any of these airlines can engage in the rewards program and accumulate the respective tokens.
The firm has reported that it has amassed a user base of over 20,000 and has distributed more than 200,000 trading cards. Kristian Weymar, a high-ranking official at the Lufthansa Innovation Hub, stated that the UpTrip platform is a strategic move to bring Web3 closer to the passenger community. He further noted that despite the nascent stage of the Web3 domain, it has managed to attract significant interest from its user base.
